Hallmark Friends

Here are some of my friends from Hallmark.

What a nice picture of these these three.
Chris by some newspaper dispensers in Northampton, and Josh throwing cards again.
Sarah in Deerfield, and all three in Northampton. This is comparable to what Chris was doing in almost every other picture I tried to take of those three.

Pictures from back in Ohio

Some pictures that remind me of home/Ohio. I saw them on my computer, and liked looking at them, so I decided to post them.

Phase 1: Complete

Today marked the final day of Phase 1. Instead of having normal classes, we had a day long critique of our phase final, which was our final assignment that we were given 3 weeks ago. For this assignment we had to make 11 different images. Each image was based on a a certain thing that we had learned or covered during phase one (showing/stopping motion, color and line, lighting, etc).

It is pretty exciting to have this phase completed. It is nice to look back and see what I have learned so far, and also to know that we will be going deeper and learning more.

Here are some of the images from my final.....

Stopping motion. This was a lot of fun to shoot. Josh, Sarah, and I spent quite a while that night in the studio. Turned on some good music, and just had a good time doing what we enjoy.

Showing motion. This was a lot of fun as well. Some of the pics from this shoot looked crazy.

Outdoor portrait. Somehow Josh ended up being in most of the pictures I decided to use. This one I took when a group of us went and shot in Northampton.

Backlighting with flash fill. Working with flash is something that I really want to work on more. This one came out pretty well. It was also in Northampton.

Breaking lines. Josh on some steps.

Cool on warm. Jude ends up being in a lot of my pictures as well.

Self portrait.

Phase 1 Final

I haven't posted anything for a while because we have been pretty busy working on our Phase 1 final. I am in the lab right now printing some of my photos for it. We have to turn in a total of 11 images. They are mostly portraits, but also a couple commercial shots. Some people have some really great ones. I haven't been too stressed out, but I am looking forward to just getting it turned in and then having the weekend to relax. I will probably put some pictures up sometime then.

I am getting really excited to get home for Thanksgiving. Can't wait to get some of that food. And I of course can't wait to see everyone. I hope Leah and Hunter aren't scared of me by now.

Yesterday we went to New York for the Photo Plus Expo. It was pretty awesome. A ton of people were there, all the camera and photography equipment that you can imagine. One of our instructors (Michael Zide) gave a talk for Bogen. It was neat for him to get to do that. After walking around the expo, we went and walked around some of the city. We ate at a diner that I can't remember the name of, then we made our way down to Time Square. It was my first time in NYC. I don't think it was exactly the same feeling as I imagined, but it is definitely an impressive place in various ways.

Looking down towards TS. I think what I liked the most was all the billboards and signs. Though, I bet back in the day before it was littered in signs, it had a different appeal to it, which I think I would also like.
Pigeons watching below, probably for food, and the Hershey's store.
Josh and Chris watching Naked Cowboy (who is originally from Cincinnati, OH), and Josh crossing the street.

Some reflections in a building across from Macy's.

I really want to get back to NYC and spend a little longer period of time enjoying the city.

Night Shots

I haven't done too much night photography. Trevor and I went out and just messed around trying some shots out. Here are two of them.

This is the bridge that crosses the river in Turners Falls.

Tully Lake Triathlon

Yesterday morning I shot a triathlon at Tully Lake. It was a lot of fun. It was my first time shooting any sort of sporting event or anything, so it was a good learning experience. And next time I think I will be able to do a better job. It also made me want to compete in a triathlon like this. I think I could have done a decent job in this one. It was a little chilly early, but I think that would probably be better weather for competing.

There were so many different kayaks, It looked really cool. This was when everyone was getting ready for the race.

After the race they had awards and a band playing and such. I didn't stick around for that.

Some Basics

This week has gone by real fast, probably because we had Monday off. We have been doing a couple things that are new for me in our classes. This is the first time I have really done anything with flash, so I am glad to finally learn how to use that correctly. And we are also starting to work with the large format cameras in the commercial studio. They were kind of intimidating at first, but I am getting use to them pretty fast. I actually think I am really going to like using them.

Here are two pics from some basic assignments we did.

Chris... my roomie... he posted a picture of me so I wanted to put one up of him.

From a depth of field assignment. Wasn't the one I turned in... but I liked it the best because it was on the tree.

Some more from the weekend.

Here are a few more pictures from this weekend. The leaves are so amazing. Northwest Ohio could be close to this pretty.... if it weren't for it being 97 percent farm fields. When I move back I am planting trees.

Trevor taking pictures off of Mt. Tom.

A hanging leaf.

These two are from down the road in Northfield. There are some pretty trees in this park. They also have snowshoe and cross country skiing trails that I will hopefully use this winter.

Looking down the Connecticut River of off the French King Bridge.

Some of the many bikers that crossed the bridge this weekend.

Reflections in the river.

Leaf Peepin

"Leaf Peeping" is in full force this weekend. The trees are amazing right now, and it has brought a ton of people..... and traffic. It is really neat. One of the popular spots is the French King Bridge right down the river from us. So many people are there looking down the river and taking pictures and such.

I went around and took a few pictures yesterday morning. In the afternoon, Trevor and I ran to Holyoke to pick up his computer. After that, we spend some time hiking to Goats Peak on at Mt. Tom. It has a tower at the top with a nice view that we could se Hartford from.

This is the drive entering Barton's Cove.

Inside Barton's Cove.

Blue heron taking off.

The ferry going under French King.

Some beautiful leaves. The thing I enjoy the most is when the different colors from different trees all overlap to make a kaleidoscope sort of color effect.
